Hi! I’m Ellen, one of the newest Speech Pathologists to join the DWSP team. I’ve found everyone here to be very friendly and welcoming, and I’m really happy to be here.
My path to speech has been a bit longer than some, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’ve always been interested in language and communication, which originally led to me studying Journalism/Arts at the University of Queensland. From there, my career has led me down many roads including working in newspapers, private communication companies, government, school communications teams and as an English teacher in Japan. This is where I discovered my passion for working with children, which was part of what led me here. I know I’ve learnt something everywhere I’ve been which I can use to help all the people I work with, colleagues and clients.
With a mother who is a social worker, I’ve always had instilled in me a recognition and appreciation of the contribution people of all abilities make to society, the importance of inclusion and diversity, and how lucky people in our industry are to be able to promote that in any way we can.
Outside of work, I’ve recently rediscovered my childhood love of roller skating and I’m keeping my eyes peeled for places in Melbourne to skate (I’m sure there are plenty). I also love to travel, and now borders are opening up again, I await my next adventure!
